Hi. My son is starting primary school in September. I expect him to go to Timbercroft which is a school that has been steadily improving over the last few years. It's my nearest school and therefore, as a full time working single parent, my best option.
I think the one in Swingate Lane has a very good reputation and you can always try Welling (you'll have to apply to Bexley council when it comes to admissions). They have excellent primary schools there. Indeed, I've also applied for Fosters in Welling as they do the 11+ and I'd eventually like him to got to Welling Grammar.

Our son is at Timbercroft and I think they are a really good school, doing their best in difficult circumstances. We looked round Greenslade Timbercroft and Rockcliffe, and checked the Ofsted reports for these and East Wickham, Plumcroft and several others, in 2005.
Greenslade does really well on paper, and is oversubscribed, but both the feel of the place and the headteacher [and the temperature in the top hall!] was very cold. Their main achievement is "value-added", which means improving the kids standards between key stage 1 and 2, partly achieved because of the high number of kids who start without English as their main language.
Rockliffe looked a bit shabby but the headmistress seemed nice and genuine, and the kids seemed ok. Good on "value-added" again, but lousy premises.
Timbercroft impressed us because of the atmosphere there, and the headmistress who is warm, friendly and inspires confidence. A really friendly feel to the place, and the kids seemed happy and well behaved. Just been rated satisfactory by Ofsted, it is undersubscribed - about 400 kids at a school that could take 500, but the biggest asset - the staff - seem really good.
We do hear good things from other parents about Greenslade. Plumcroft is apparently not great. East Wickham is also undersubscribed, and supposedly a "feeder school" for Welling grammar, although their last Ofsted report is not very good. Eastcote is excellent, and you don't have a cat in hell's chance of getting in, unless you live next door! These last two are in Bexley, but you can apply for up to 3 in the borough, as well as whatever you try in Greenwich.

Bannockburn has the best nursery teacher ever, its almost a real 'school of rock'. He plays electric guitar to the kids and they write the words to the songs. At the end of term the kids do a little concert for the parents and because they're singing songs that they wrote the words for, they sing their little hearts out. Its brilliant.
Theres also pictures of Jimi Hendrix and Keith Moon on the walls with tons of musical instruments for the kids to play with. As soon as I saw that I was more than happy for my boy to be going there.

Am a few years off primary schools (not me personally) but does anyone have any good childminders/nannies or nursery info in Plumstead? I am planning on going back to work and want to know what options are around.

Sounds great. I'll have to come to their school concert!

Well the school placements are in and my son is going to Timbercroft. I'm a bit annoyed that they changed the breakfast/evening club at Greenslade (which also took the kids from T'Croft) without specifying it on Greenwich Council's website. This effectively meant that I choose my school with the wrong information available to me. The evening club is now at South Rise and apparently they make the children walk there from T'Croft after the school day - children as young as five.
That said, I'm happy with my choice and there's a lovely new Reception building at Timbercroft!

Our son is in year 1 at Timbercroft, and we are happy with the school and have confidence in Jane, the headmistress. Of course there are always things that could be improved, but the way to do that is to get involved, if you can.
Don't worry - my wife [who is now a school parent governor] and a friend are planning to start up a new after school club for Timbercroft in September. I'll keep you posted on details as things progress.

I am a full time working single parent and was so hoping that I could make use of the breakfast/evening club - it's so hard to juggle things. I will certainly be getting involved as a parent if I can.

Thank you so much for this info! I will come to the fayre on 14th and get the all the details. It's really helpful as childcare is difficult and expensive for a full time working single mother and I was hoping to cut down the bill after four years of paying huge nursery fees!

Well I was the Timbercroft Fair and I didn't see anything relating to after school clubs. Did I miss it?
