I always wonder why anyone wastes money on the "throw a ring around the prize AND the square plinth it is on" stall, bearing in mind it is virtually impossible to do?
Top prize was an unspecified bottle of bubbly [pomagne?] together with 200 Silk Cut, a 'Lord of the rings' DVD and a £10 note.
Tempting eh?
And what about the HUGE lorry displaying large stuffed toys [win or buy!] that was actually just a scratch card game.
Fairs are such rubbish nowadays, just very crude deivices for parting fools and their money, aimed at the more unsuspecting members of society ie kids.

A friend recently gave me a DVD of a 'Make Merry' from the 70s, possibly the 1st one that you mention. It looked a right laugh. I think it was made by the Plumstead cine club.
