I was delighted to discover this message board via Plumsteadshire but having read this thread I think you are all a bunch of snobs! Co-op become an M&S indeed! I like olives and ciabatta as much as the next man but what a patronising load of sh!te. Why don't you bog off back to Greenwich or Blackheath........oh I forgot, you can't afford it! Well count your blessings then. Well said Donald! I love my co-op - dividends, ethical trading and all ;D

Hilarious - not sure how you can live in Plumstead and be a snob. Who doesnt want better facilities - be these a deli (no olives for me tho thanks), cafe, estate agent or what. No you're right I can afford a house the size I have in Blackheath or Greenwich but I would prefer to live there, I choose not to live in a flat because of family circumstances. Would you rather Plumstead didn't enter into the regeneration rat race and stayed as it is? If so you're exactly the type of person I don't want in Plumstead thank you and hope you don't live near me.

Speaking of the Co-op, I shop there a lot and don't want it replaced with an M&S. The Co-op has real history in this area and I agree with the things the Co-op stands for - fair trade products, no animal testing, clear labelling etc. etc. but why oh why do they make customers form two queues?!!!

Yeh co-op has history in the area but its a rubbish shop. WAY overpriced, no choice in brands and the co-op down the bottom of Lakedale has some real arsehole staff that put me off ever using that shop again.
People wanting an M&S tho are surely on another planet!!
DECENT, INDEPENDENT foodshops. No corporate monstrosities please.

The Co-Op in Lakedale is my nearest "convenience" store. It's fantastic if i want to buy booze, crisps or tins of Spam. But i don't need to stand in a queue for 20 mins while half the staff are hiding in the store room for the pleasure. The Co-Op on the common is better, but have you seen the facelift that's happened to the one in Charlton? Very glam. Would love to see that happen here.

Although I wouldn't mind my house being worth half a mill!! I think most people would welcome a bit more choice like Blackheath, but without losing the charm and diversity we have in Plumstead.

Why move somewhere if you dont like it as it is? The only reason I can think is if you havent got enough money, and if thats the case then its even more absurd to try and impose pretentions of grandeur.

I would think most people in London don't have enough cash to live where they like. I certainly wouldn't choose to live in Plumstead if I had more cash I have to be honest. But we needed to live in a house not a flat and we couldn't afford a house in the areas we liked so we had to go with an area that was less of a choice that we saw potential in.

Thats fair enough, its just that anyone who's moved to Plumstead because they couldn't afford Blackheath (as an example) should accept it for what it is and not go trying to turn the area into something it isn't, not that I'm accusing you of that. After all, if you want Blackheath style eateries and wine bars then nothings stopping you getting on a bus, train, bike, car or whatever.

We have just put an offer in on a lovely house in Plumstead mainly because the house prices in other parts of london are so expensive. I have been reading alot of the posts and am pleased to see there are some like minded people living in the area. I am a graduate with fabulous taste and all that and am wondering where there might be a yoga class, or an italian lesson, but the property price outweighs local amenities. Where is the nearest Italian restaurant / deli?? Starbucks?
The area seems to have alot of 'potential'. I found the high street and some of the surrounding streets to be scary, but there are lots of green open spaces but are these safe? I will need to walk my dog. I asked people in work about plumstead and they were horrified that we were moving there and called it a sh*t hole. But beggars can't be choosers.
Please give me some more info!

Best pull out while you still can! Don't you know the 3 most important things about a property? Location location location! PS. I'm assuming this post is a wind-up [looking for local Italian lessons and Starbucks?], and replying in the same spirit. PPS. TBF I encountered the Plumstead = sh*thole myth myself before moving here and discovering otherwise.
