Does anyone else think the train times are bonkers during commuting hours? Yesterday I had to go to the Doctors (fear not I am fine)! and there were 5 trains I could have caught within the hour to Plumstead. Yet in the evenings it is a mission to get home. From Cannon Street you can either get the train after 5pm or the 5.48pm (now nearly everyone I know that works in the City be it as a PA, rec con, banker) finishes at 6pm at the earliest..so what are the options between 5.48pm and 7.04pm? You have to change at LB. How bonkers is this..I wrote to Southeastern and got some wanky reply about train timetables are written in conjunction with people's demand or some other rubbish...Now I would love a job that finishes at 5pm but I have never had a job in London that finishes before 6pm and I have worked in a variety of organisations and I hate having to faff about on the way home..Below is the reply I received from SE - all v pleasant but I am not sure which commuters they had in mind when they wrote this...
Thank you for your email of 6 February 2007 regarding services between London Cannon Street and Plumstead. I was most concerned to learn that our current timetable does not suit your particular requirements.
Timetables are always a compromise - we do try to balance the needs and wishes of all our customers in the most effective way, with the limitations within which we have to operate. Our timetable will be a balance between improved journey times and opportunities and revised scheduling to match customer requirements, which change regularly. In making our timetable planning decisions, we have to examine many factors from passenger requirements of types of customers travelling e.g. business commuters or leisure customers. Our schedules are designed to meet the needs of as many customers as possible. Unfortunately it does mean that, much as we should like to do so, we cannot please everyone.
Our timetables are not set in stone and we do regularly monitor and review services to ensure they are still meeting customers changing needs. Southeastern will always consider customer feedback such as yours when reviewing the timetable and in the past have been able to accommodate some suggestions.
